Obituary for Victor White

Victor White, 93, of Grinnell, died on Monday, February 25, 2019 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A celebration of life and burial will be at a later date.

Memorials may be designated to the Grace Community Church or to the Grinnell Elks Lodge, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Victor was born on June 8, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Grace (Beatty) White.

Victor attended school in Grinnell. He later enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1943-1946. He married Erdythe Earp at the Methodist Church in Kilduff, Iowa on August 18, 1946. Victor worked at Maytag for over 35 years. He was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved watching the Grinnell Tigers. Victor could be seen many times with a pool stick in his hand playing a round of pool. He loved riding his lawn mower and mowing the lawn which was hard for him to give up as he aged. Victor loved his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Victor is survived by his wife, Erdythe of Grinnell, his children, Rita (Waldo) Walker of Grinnell, Kyle (Jean) White of Sioux Falls, SD, Victoria (Doug) Hoffstetter of Searsboro, Paul (Vickie) White of Kellogg; his grandchildren, Sara (John) Thompson of Grinnell, Brad (Steph) White of Urbandale, Lance White, Matthew White of Sioux Falls, SD, Andrew White of Sioux Falls, SD; 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two children in infancy, Randall and James.
