Shirley E. Ulin, 72, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. As per Shirley's wishes, no services will be held. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Shirley E. Ulin Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Shirley Esther Ulin was born on January 16, 1942, the daughter of Dale and Agatha (Penn) Woodsmall in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She received her LPN from Marshalltown Community College. She retired from nursing in 1994. She loved children and babysat for numerous families. Shirley was always helping others and enjoyed her time as a nurse. She liked to watch the cooking channel. She just recently went to the Iowa State Fair with her grandson, Zach, whom she spoiled every chance she had. Shirley is survived by her sons, Kevin Ulin and Jerry (Kristi) Ulin, both of Grinnell; her grandson, Zach Ulin of Grinnell; her sister, Doris Dugger of Sigourney, Iowa; one niece, Tammy Dugger; several great nieces and nephews, Alexis, Sadie, Lincoln, Cassie, David, Joe, Haley and four great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bonnie Louise Woodsmall, in infancy; one nephew, Rick Dugger and two nieces, Rhoda and Nichole Dugger.
