Sandra Louise (Peak) Tokle, age 77 of Grinnell, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7th at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service in the Friendship Center of the church. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Sandy's family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Memories and condolences may be shared with Sandy's family online at www.smithfh.com. Sandra Louise Peak born on September 11, 1941, the daughter of Edward B. and Sarah (Evelyn) Miller Peak. She grew up on a farm in Gilman, Iowa, graduating from Gilman High School. She married Ray C. Tokle on September 16, 1961 and continued living and loving the farm life in rural Grinnell. The couple had four children: Rhonda, Brian, Bruce, and Raelene. Sandy attended the University of Northern Iowa and also worked for periods at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, Cedar Valley Farm Business Association, and as an aide for Grinnell-Newburg Community School District. Her most recent employment was working 20 years at Grinnell Family Care before retiring in 2007. Over the years Sandy volunteered for many organizations including Grinnell General Hospital Auxiliary Board; the Blue Ribbon Committee to assess future needs of Poweshiek County; fifteen years as a 4-H club leader as well as being a judge on local and county levels; Poweshiek County Fair Board; Sunday School teacher; and the Christian Education Committee at United Methodist Church. The most important things to her were faith and family. She went to every event her children and grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed making photo albums, and, in most recent years, researching family genealogy and dancing. She was best known for her kindness and her beautiful smile. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Rhonda (Bill) Sepic of Waunakee, WI; Brian (Peggy) Tokle and Bruce (Mindy) Tokle of Grinnell, IA; and Raelene (Chad) Lenoch of West Branch, IA; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; her sister, Polly Knoll; 10 nieces and nephews; and 4 in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; two grandchildren, Ryan and Logan Lenoch; her parents; two sisters, Katherine Sturtz and Carolyn Stadtmueller; her brother, Edward Lee Peak; her brother-in-law, Vernon Sturtz; and her nephew, Greg Sturtz.
