Obituary

Robert was born on July 24, 1927, in Elberon, Iowa, to Charles and Pearl Dralle Kaloupek. He was raised in Toledo and graduated from Toledo High School with the Class of 1944. Following his education he worked for the Central Iowa Telephone Company and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he returned to Iowa the Central Iowa Telephone Company and worked as a cable splicer. On May 4, 1957, he was married to Marrina Maas in Homestead, Iowa. The couple lived in Williamsburg and Emmetsburg before moving to Grinnell in 1975. He was employed with General Telephone Company until his retirement in November of 1985. He was a member of the Immanual Lutheran Church in Grinnell and he was an avid fan of the Grinnell Tigers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. During his retirement he enjoyed exercising at the Ahrens Fitness Center and 'coffee time' with his friends at Cunningham's Drug Store and Hardees. Survivors include his wife, Marrina; two daughters, Jan (Toney) Fender of Fayetteville, Georgia and Lynn (Vince) Gitch of Grapevine, Texas; one son, Tom (Sandy) Kaloupek of North Liberty, Iowa; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Kaloupek of Toledo, IA and John Kaloupek of Lake Lure, N.C.; and two sisters, Phyllis Willer of Marshalltown, IA and Mary Lou Kaloupek of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leland Kaloupek and Doug Kaloupek. Memorials may be directed to Dollars for Scholars of the Grinnell High School or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grinnell.
