Richard Eyestone, age 79 of Montezuma and formerly of Grinnell, died on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with Pastor Dave Crow officiating. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. A reception will follow in the Friendship Center at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Memorials may be designated to the Grinnell United Methodist Church, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.smithfh.com. Richard Dean Eyestone was born the son of Wilbur and Ruby (Allen) Eyestone on February 1, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1958. He attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Following his education, Richard returned to Grinnell and was an over-the-road semi driver. He lived in Des Moines during the 1970's and worked for Dahl's grocery store. He returned to Grinnell in late 1970's and worked with his father at Eyestone Insurance Agency in Grinnell. He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Richard has resided at Diamond Life in Montezuma for the last 13 years. Richard's family and friends brought him great joy, especially his nieces and nephews. He was faced with many health obstacles, but he always made the best of what he was faced with. He enjoyed taking walks around Grinnell and visiting with those doing the same. He will be remembered for being cheerful, positive, and always having a smile on his face. Richard is survived by his brother, Wilbur (Deb) Eyestone of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents.
