Obituary

Raymond Park passed away on November 25, 2018 after a fall in the home and subsequent hospitalization at St. Luke's Cardiac Care Unit and Hospice House in Kansas City. He was born on August 28, 1931 to Elva E. and Roy H. Park in Victor, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Richard, who passed just 7 days before. He is survived by a sister, Janice Park Koch, Rowlett, TX and a beloved friend, Joni Lindstrom, Tallahassee, FL. He graduated from Victor High School and Cornell College, Mt. Vernon IA before teaching instrumental music in Clarence, IA. When drafted into the army, he served as an MP doing clerical work. Raymond then attended the Univ. of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he earned both a Master's degree in Music History and Literature and a PhD in Musicology and was nominated to Phi Kappa Phi. He began and ended (1964-1996) his college teaching career at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, teaching piano, Introduction to Graduate Study, American Music, etc., served as secretary of Pi Kappa Lambda and worked at cataloging the Essig Collection. He had maintained an extensive music bibliography and continued to enjoy playing the piano and raising orchids and other plants until his death.
