Marie Turlouw, 82, of Grinnell and formerly of rural Sully, died November 26, 2008, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, at the Lynnville Friends Church. Vocalist will be Eileen Smiley. Burial will be in the Sully Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Lynnville Friends Church, Grinnell Regional Hospice, or St. Francis Manor.
Marie was born October 21, 1926, on the family farm in Jasper County, near Sully, the daughter of Henry and Alice Nikkel Terlouw. She attended Sudlow Country School near her home. After her education she worked at home and helped raise her siblings following the death of her mother in 1939. She formerly worked at the Des Moines Rubber Stamp, Dunlap Manufacturing in Newton, and retired as a health care aid with the Department of Human Services Jasper County, where she made favorable impressions with co-workers and clients.
In her retirement she participated in the Grinnell Farmer's Market for several years with her nephews Doug and Dennis Terlouw. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and attending community events. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed selling her produce at the Farmer's Market. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her nieces and nephews and many close cousins. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton.
Marie lived in rural Sully most of her life and moved to St. Francis Manor in 2007.
Survivors include three brothers, Gerritt Terlouw, Henry 'Hank' (Mary Grace) Terlouw, and Bob Terlouw, all of Grinnell, one sister, Jennie Terlouw of Grinnell; two sisters-in-law, Donna Terlouw of Lynnville and Lois Vander Schel of Pella; many nieces and nephews; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many close cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James and Ollie Terlouw; and a sister-in-law, Ella Mae (Mrs. Bob) Terlouw.
