Lorretta I. Michalek, 78, of Victor, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor, with Rev. Brian Shepley officiating.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Lorretta Michalek Memorial Fund, and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.
Lorretta was born on September 27, 1934, in rural Victor to John and Mary Wentland McDonald.
She graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Victor and then attended AIB College in Des Moines.
On May 8, 1954, she was married to Robert Michalek at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. The couple made their home in Victor and Lorretta worked for Rohrer Brothers as a bookkeeper.
Lorretta enjoyed playing cards as well as working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She held a strong faith in the Catholic Church. She was also very proud and dedicated to her family.
Survivors include her husband Robert Michalek of Victor; children, Robert Michalek of Overland Park, Kansas, Tim (Jileane) Michalek of DeSoto, Kansas, Terry Michalek of Hinckley, Minnesota, and Sarah (Kenny) Kaplan of Victor; sisters, Bernadine Roushar of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Don) Sumpter of Brooklyn, Katherine (Laverne) Dietrich of Newton, and Jeannette (Bill) Holtz of Cedar rapids; sister-in-law, Mary Pilcher of Davenport; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marie DeMeulenaere; and her brother-in-laws, Wayne Kriegel, Jack Roushar, and Bud DeMeulenaere.
