Julia was born May 24, 1922, at her parent's home in Grinnell, the daughter of Louis and Ruth German Terpstra. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1940. She later attended nursing school for two years. After her education she worked for the Ben Franklin Store and Bartlett Jewelry in Grinnell. On July 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Burdette D. Julia was very family oriented; she loved family activities and gatherings with Christmas Eve being a very special family time in her home. She was quiet-natured, but knew the value of hard work and would lead by example. In her spare time she liked to travel, go antique shopping and doing craft work, including embroidering and sewing.
