John T. Turley, age 15, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at his home. A funeral mass will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell with Father Nick Adam presiding. Pallbearers are Mark Romano, Mike Anderson, Tracy Sadler, Mike Beck, Jason Pollock, and Tony Leonard. A reception will be held immediately following his service at the Harris Center on the Grinnell College Campus, 1114 – 10th Avenue in Grinnell. Interment will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery near Dawson, Minnesota on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home and his family will be present to greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be designated to the John T. John was born the son of Scott and Stacy (Jordahl) Turley on July 19, 1997, in Akron, Ohio. The family moved to Grinnell in January of 1999. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and he was a freshman at Grinnell High School. John had been a member of Cub Scout Pack 347 and then Boy Scout Troop 313 since the first grade. Among other things, a Scout is loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, thrifty and brave according to the Scout Law. John succeeded almost every day meeting these ideals. He certainly did a Good Turn Daily. He was proud to be a member of the Grinnell Sure Shots Trap Shooting Club. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, hunting and fishing. John will be remembered for his constant smile and love of conversation, usually about sports, fishing and his siblings. His positive attitude and love of life were his trademarks. John is survived by his parents, Scott and Stacy Turley of Grinnell; his siblings, Molly, Matthew and Lucy Turley of Grinnell; his paternal grandfather, Melvin "Doug" Turley of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; his maternal grandmother, Kathie Jordahl of Alexandria, Minnesota; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. John was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Doris Lillian Turley; and his maternal grandfather, Rick C. Jordahl. John's final resting place will be next to his Grandpa Rick.
