Hilda M. Gowin, age 96, of Montezuma, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared with her family at www.smithfh.com. Hilda Margaret (Schurman) Gowin was born on July 13, 1917, in Lacona, Iowa to Henry and Mary (Walk) Schurman. She was raised and educated in Lacona. She was united in marriage to Howard Edwin Gowin in Des Moines, Iowa in 1937. Hilda was a homemaker. Hilda is survived by her sons, Donald (Janie) Gowin of Silver Lake, Kansas, Michael (Maggie) Gowin of Rochester, Minnesota, and Gary (Melissa) Gowin of Montezuma, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Riche of Louisburg, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Edward Schurman, Herman Schurman, and Marie Wadle.
