Helen S. Wauters, 95, of Victor, died May 5, 2017, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11th, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Rev. Cory Close, St. Bridget Catholic Church and Rev. David Wilkening, St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamsburg, officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad, Lori, Matt and Mark Collum and Aaron, Blaine, Brian and Michael Wauters. Honorary bearers will be Michael Faas, Chris White, Stephanie Williams and Jennie Wilson. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Victor. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Helen S. Wauters Memorial Fund. Helen, the daughter of Henry and Mary Stevens Van Otegham, was born July 23, 1921, near Victor, Iowa. She received her education in rural schools and graduated from St. John's High School in Victor with the class of 1939. Helen was united in marriage with Achiel C. Wauters on July 31, 1944 in Victor. The couple farmed near Brooklyn and Hartwick before moving to Victor in 1982. Helen was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Helen enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling, working in her garden and helping on the farm. She was a friend to many in Victor and surrounding communities. She is survived by four children; Marilyn (Bob) Collum of Brooklyn, Ron (Cherie) Wauters of Pella, Joe (Nancy) Wauters of Marshalltown and Jerry (Chris) Wauters of Hartwick; one sister, Henrietta Malloy of Williamsburg; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Achiel; one brother, John Van Otegham; and four sisters, Hilda DeVoorde, Madeline Wauters, Clara Anderson and Marie DeMeyer.
