Obituary

Gwen was born on June 17, 1922, on a farm near Exira, Iowa to Clyde and Pearl Sewell Dimick. She was raised in Audubon, Iowa and she graduated from Audubon High School with the Class of 1940. While in high school she played clarinet in the marching and concert bands. Following high school she attended Simpson College and pledged the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. During World War II she took a leave of absence from college and worked in the Recorder's Office in Audubon and worked Saturdays at Kraft Men's Clothing Store. She resumed her college career after the war and received a BA Degree in psychology and sociology. After graduation from Simpson College she worked as a secretary in the Selective Service and in the Recorders Office in Audubon. On October 1, 1950, she was married to Earl J. Jensen in Audubon. The couple moved to Grinnell, where they owned and operated Jensen Optometrists. Gwen was a homemaker and was active in her children's activities. She also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of P.E.O. and TTT. Survivors include her children, Dr. Clark (Annie) Jensen, Carol (Dr. Dave) Smith and Tracy (Vicki) Jensen, all of Grinnell and Dr. Scott (Shirley) Jensen of Tyrone, Georgia; and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
