Edna Buckwalter, 89, of Victor, died on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Victor United Methodist Church. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday and the family will be present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Victor United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Edna was born on July 23, 1924, to William "Billy" and Mary Messer Buckwalter on a farm in Poweshiek County, near Victor, Iowa. She attended country school and then Victor High School, graduating in the class of 1941.
She worked from May 1941 to August 1943, as an operator at the telephone company in Victor. Edna then worked at Collins Radio from August 1943 to August 1945. The following year, she attended Cedar Rapids Business College and then worked at National Oats Company until 1952. Edna returned home to Victor and worked at Amana Refrigeration until she retired in 1986.
Edna enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. She was a "can do" person and was always helpful to others. She was a long time member of the Victor United Methodist Church and always gave to the Children's Christian Fund.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Kathryn Buckwalter of Victor, her niece, Susan Grande, her great nieces and nephews, Jennifer Melgaard, Nicholas Waterbeck, Erika Grande, Nathan Grande and Kristen Grande, two great great nieces and two great great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Arlene Street.
