Obituary for Edna Arlene Reed

Edna Arlene Reed, 91, of Grinnell, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Mayflower Community with her daughters at her bedside.

Edna will be cremated and interred with a graveside service in late spring at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfax, Minnesota.

Memorials may be designated to Edna Reed Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Edna was born in Mahnomen, Minnesota to Bert and Amelia (Boysen) Blackwell on March 26, 1927. Edna was the 13th of 14 children. She grew up on the family farm near Hector, Minnesota. During World War II she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to work in a factory. There she met and married Robert Reed on October 9, 1948. To this union 7 daughters were born. They moved to Grinnell in 1953 where they made their home and Edna lived for almost 70 years.

Edna was a homemaker, avid gardener and she loved to knit, crochet and do plastic canvas. When you would visit Edna at her home, you would find her watching bull riding and the Chicago Cubs in her spare time.

Edna is survived by her six daughters, Barbara (Alan) Arthur of Oakland Acres, Nancy (Glenn) Zylstra of Bettendorf, Beverly (Jim) Pierce of Kellogg, Susan Bauman of Brooklyn, Vicki (Michael) Campbell of Pleasant Hill, and Rhonda Reed of Denver Colorado; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her daughter Cheryl Reed Kriegel, an infant granddaughter, and 13 of her siblings.
