Dr. Raymond Light, 88, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, February 01, 2015, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell with Rev. Rose Blank, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell at a later date.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Thursday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Henry Raymond Light Jr. was born on March 9, 1926, in Grinnell, Iowa to Henry Raymond Light Sr. and Fern Ondler. He was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the Class of 1944. From 1944 to 1946, he served with the United States Air Force. Following the war, he returned home and enrolled at the University of Iowa. He received a BA degree in 1950 from the University of Iowa and in 1953, he completed his studies at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
He was married to Rhea Brannian on August 3, 1946 in Brooklyn. After graduating from medical school, the couple lived in Youngstown, Ohio, where Raymond served as a medical intern. The family moved to Grinnell in 1954 and he served for over 40 years as a physician. He served as Chief of Staff at Grinnell General Hospital and later Grinnell Regional Medical Center on several occasions.
Raymond was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Grinnell Golf and Country Club and the American and Iowa Medical Associations. He was also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Eta Sigma. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Rhea Light of Grinnell; two daughters, Sara (Tim) Pearson of Urbandale, IA and Susan (Al) Chingren of Lenexa, KS; five grandchildren, Matthew Pearson, Jonathan (Anne) Pearson, Scott (Megan) Pearson, Christopher (Abbey) Chingren and Adam (Lauren Weber) Chingren; and three great grandchildren, Katelyn, Landon and Stella Pearson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John C. Light; and one sister, Jane Ellen McIlrath.
