Obituary

Betty J. Hotchkin, 68, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Ron Hodges, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Pianist will be William Tinker. Inurnment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. The family will be present at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Station Club House and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Betty was born on December 6, 1945, in Davenport, Iowa to Walter and Theodora Goettsch Risch. She was raised on the family farm near Bettendorf and graduated with the Class of 1964 from Pleasant Valley High School. Betty was united in marriage to Bruce Morrell and one son was born to this union. The couple lived in the Quad City area and later divorced. Betty moved to Grinnell and was married to William "Bill" Hotchkin on May 16, 1998 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She has resided at the Station Club House in Grinnell for the past few years. Betty enjoyed reading and attending activities at the Station Club House. She is survived by one son, Dan (Vicky) Morrell of LeClaire, Iowa; two grandchildren, Shiloe Hillman and Haley Whilhite; two great grandchildren, Madline and Carter Hillman; one sister, Barbara (Henry) Potter of Illinois City, IL; and one brother, Roger (Sandy) Risch of Davenport, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
