Betty was born on June 2, 1923, the daughter of Fred A. and Pearl Effie Loyd Peterson in Kansas City, Missouri. She was raised in Kansas City and graduated high school there. On May 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to David E. Coons. To this union, two sons were born, Fredrick and David. She was a bookkeeper for Malnar Mechanical and later for US Engineering. Betty is survived by her husband David of Grinnell; her sons and their spouses, Fred and Martha Coons and Dave and Francene Coons, all of Grinnell; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one brother Dick Peterson of Tombstone, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowrs, the family request that memorials be directed to Hospice or to St. Francis Manor.
