Beatrice E. McDonald, 99, of Malcom, died on Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. There will be a visitation one hour prior to her service. Memorials may be directed to the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or to the Grinnell Church of Nazarene and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home. Bea was born on October 19, 1913, the daughter of Willmer F. and Maud Close Clevenger in Ladora, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Ladora High School. On August 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to Elmer R. McDonald in Lancaster, Missouri. They moved to Grinnell in 1938. Bea was employed at the Grinnell Shoe Factory for 22 years, until its closure in 1964. She moved to Malcom in 1967, where she resided until moving to Montezuma in December 2010. Bea was a member of the Church of Nazarene for over 60 years. She was the treasurer of the church for several years. Bea took great pride in her family and her faith. Bea is survived by her four daughters, Doris Coleman of Manvel, Texas, Frances Kibbee of Montezuma, Darlene McDonald of Kearns, Utah and Sherilee Smith of Malcom; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great great grandchildren; two sisters, Frances (Donald) Dietrich of Marengo and Dorothy Johnson of Urbandale. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer in 1966; a grandson in 1975 and a great grandson in 1987.
