Peggy was born on May 10, 1914, in Leighton, Iowa to Dr. J.J. and Adelaide Black Sybenga. She received a teaching degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa and taught in the Dunlap School District for three years. On September 4, 1937, she was married to Lawrence G. Keeney at Pella. The couple made their home in Grinnell, where she was a homemaker and he was CEO of Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company from 1944 to 1975. They moved to Gull Lake in Minnesota and returned to Grinnell in 1983. Peggy was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell, Pi Rho Lambda, the Sit and Knit Club and the Garden Club in Brainerd, Minnesota. She was a 60-year member of PEO. While living in Grinnell she was involved in community and school activities and she enjoyed music, film, needlework, reading books and politics. Life on Gull Lake allowed her to follow a love of nature and time to purse knowledge in the treatment and cure of diabetes. She is survived by three daughters, Martha (Robert) Heddens of Park City, Utah, Cynthia Cronn of Papillion, Nebraska and Mary Mowers of Beliot, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1984; and one son-in-law, Michael Mowers.
