Obituary for Keith L. Campbell

Keith L. Campbell, age 82 of Victor died on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Rose Haven Nursing
Home in Marengo with his family by his side.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 20th at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Fr. Corey Close officiating. Interment with military rites will be at Calvary Cemetery in Victor.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor and his family
will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Keith Campbell Memorial Fund to benefit local organizations of the family’s choice and may be mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347. Memories and condolences may be shared online with his family at

Keith Leon Campbell was born on May 20, 1935 to Vaughn Lecil Campbell and Wilhelmina
“Minnie” (Van Voorst) Campbell in Parnell, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Parnell, North
English, Solon and Brooklyn respectively. Keith graduated from Victor High School with the
class of 1953.

Keith honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 and was
stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. On February 16, 1957, Keith was united in marriage to Janice
Maxine Blomme at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. The couple was blessed with four
children: Cathy, Roger, Charles and Rita. They raised their family in Victor, where they have
lived all of their lives together. Keith was employed at Maschmann City Service and Koehn
Motor Company as a mechanic before working as a lineman at Victor Cooperative Telephone
Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church,
Knights of Columbus, Victor American Legion, and was a retired fireman of the Victor Fire

Keith was a family man, a dedicated employee, a talented woodworker, and an outdoorsman,
who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great
grandchildren and enjoyed attending their academic and athletic events. Keith will be
remembered by his family for being a great father and husband, a mentor, and a jokester who
had a fun-loving sense of humor, which included a hat collection that amused all.

Keith is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Campbell of Victor; his son, Chuck (Glenda)
Campbell of Marengo, Iowa; two daughters, Cathy (Jeff) Verdeck of Victor and Rita (Brad)
Hinrichs of Victor; daughter-in-law, Ellen Campbell of Victor; ten grandchildren, Crystal Hall,
Angie Rhinehart, Emily Pirkl, and Joe Verdeck, Cara Jack, Melanie Kempf, and Derek
Campbell, Sean Campbell, and Grant and Garrett Hinrichs; fourteen great grandchildren;
brother, Ron Campbell of Dallas, Texas; and sister, Karen Kuhnle of Ladora, Iowa. He was
preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Campbell; and brother, Jack Campbell.
