Obituary for Doris A. Eames

Doris Eames, age 69, of Marshalltown, died on Tuesday night, February 6, 2018, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown with her family by her side.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor John Epperson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to her service at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.

Memorials may be designated to the Doris A. Eames Memorial Fund to create a nursing scholarship fund at Marshalltown Community College. Doris Ann Audas was born the daughter of Eldon F. Audas and Doris (Maxine) Donnan Audas on September 20, 1948 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Grinnell and Newton respectively.

Doris was united in marriage to Patrick Lynch and to this union was born two sons, Todd and Tony. She was united in marriage to Leon Jensen in 1975 and they were blessed with a son, Clayton. She was united in marriage to David Chizek on January 25, 1984 in Garner, Iowa and they were blessed with a daughter, Carrie. On June 30, 1998, Doris was united in marriage to Tom Eames at the Church of God in Lynnville, Iowa. The couple lived in Gilman until Tom’s death in 2008.

From a young age, Doris overcame many obstacles in life, yet always remained positive and optimistic. At the age of 36, she earned her nursing degree from Marshalltown Community College and began her longtime career of caring for patients at Marshalltown Hospital, Grinnell General Hospital, and later at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell, Southridge Care Center and Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, baking, and traveling to see her family. She will be remembered for the strong love of her family and for being a provider to many.

Doris is survived her sons, Todd Lynch of Marshalltown, Tony (Mercy) Lynch of Gilbert, Arizona and Clay (Allyson) Jensen of Marshalltown; daughter, Carrie (Jesse) Rognes of Ankeny, Iowa; 11 grandchildren with one on the way; 3 great grandchildren with one on the way; and siblings, Norma (Bill) Lynch of Marshalltown, Dick (Anne) Audas of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mary (Ron) Ritter of Gilman, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tom Eames in 2008.
