Michael D. Ahrens, 52, of Grinnell died July 21, 2010, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 26, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Raymond Lott, retired, officiating. Pallbearers will be Todd Ahrens, Bobby and Tony Allen, Mike Kriegel, Dan and Donnie LaGrange, Kurt and Stefan Mumm, and Robert Walker. Honorary bearer will be Austin Roshek. Burial will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 2:00 to 5:00 Sunday afternoon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Michael D. Ahrens Memorial Fund.

Mike was born August 3, 1957, in Denison, Texas, the son of Donald W. and Virginia Mae Watson Ahrens. He was raised in Grinnell and was a 1975 graduate of Grinnell High School. |
On October 15, 1977, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Kriegel at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Following her death on January 16, 1999, he was married to Teresa Ann Wilkins on February 25, 2009, in Brooklyn. Grinnell was his home and he was employed at Maytag in Newton for over 30 years and retired April 30, 2009. He was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Club |
Mike was devoted to his family and loved sharing his time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing, and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, going to casinos, and classic cars. He held a great sense of humor and enjoyed having fun being a prankster. |
Survivors include his wife, Teresa of Grinnell; his mother, Virginia of Grinnell; three children, Jamie Glass of Brooklyn, Amber Wallerich of Grinnell, and Matt Ahrens of Grinnell; two step-children, Lauryl and Kassie Wilkins of Grinnell; three sisters, Linda Mumm of Missouri Valley, Vicki Allen of Towanda, Illinois, and Debbie Walker of Montezuma; one brother, Richard Ahrens of Grinnell; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; his first wife; and a son-in-law, Steven Glass. |
