Nedra Ann Strawn, 53, of Gilman died peacefully June 29, 2010, at Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown with her family present after a 3 year fight against pulmonary hypertension.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown.

Nedra was born October 1, 1956, in Grinnell, the daughter of Brad and Ruth Russell Jones. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1975 graduate of Grinnell High School and then attended DMACC. While in high school she worked part-time at Grinnell General Hospital.
In 1978 she was united in marriage to Mike Goodin at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. She was later married to Mike Strawn on September 25, 1989, in Gilman.

Nedra was employed for 27 years at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center and for 3 years at the Iowa Veterans Home and the McFarland Clinic in Marshalltown. She retired April 19, 2007. |
She was a member of the Gilman Preschool Board, East Marshall Boosters Club, Gilman Energetics, Marshall County Extension Board, and the Gilman and Grinnell U.C.C.-Congregational. She was devoted to promoting the awareness and finding a cure for pulmonary hypertension.
Nedra was very devoted to her family and was very proud of her children. She was a loving and caring person who held a passion for her work where she touched a lot of people with her kind heart and gentle compassion. She loved the outdoors, nature, and music. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating at Rock Creek Lake State Park with family and friends. She also enjoyed her time bird watching, flower gardening, and watching Wheel of Fortune.

Survivors include her husband, Mike of Gilman, her parents, Brad and Ruth Jones of Grinnell, two daughters, Brianne Goodin and Katie Strawn both of Gilman; one step-son, Matt Strawn of Cedar Rapids;one sister, Michelle (Scott) Jones McLeod of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Scott Jones of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and her pet dog, Abby. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arlo and Mildred Jones and William and Viola Russell; one uncle, Bob Russell; and two aunts, Carolyn Jones Wiley and Jackie Jones Hamon. |
