Merlin was born the son of William and Perah McClenathan Weisskopf on May 21, 1936 near Victor, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Victor and he graduated from Victor High School with the class of 1954.

He was united in marriage to Donna Nail on June 12, 1954. The couple farmed southeast of Victor until 1964. They moved to Victor and they owned and operated Victor Implement and Seed for 10 years. Merlin moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1985 and then moved to Altamonte Springs, Florida, where he worked for SE Precast as a service manager. He was married to Peggy Sue Bourikas in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 1993.

Merlin was one who did things his own way. He was a hard-worker and he taught his children this quality among the other fundamentals of life. He loved music, especially Country Western and Big Band. His enjoyments included cooking, grilling, gardening, snowmobiling, playing his harmonica, and golfing.

Merlin is survived by his children, Dan (Peggy) Weisskopf of Victor; Russ Weisskopf and his special friend, Sheila Soppe of West Union, Iowa, Jeff (Justine) Weisskopf of Marengo, Iowa, and Angie (Rick) Radcliffe of Brooklyn, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Matt (Stacia) Weisskopf of Victor, Brett (Danielle) Weisskopf of Victor, Chad Weisskopf of Marshall, Missouri, Trisha Benson of New Sharon, Sion(Amy) Fontinel of Victor, Sarah (Matt) Johnson of Victor, Erin (Travis) Henkle of Malcom, Steve Hawkins of Ankeny, Monica Radcliffe of Clermont and Morgan Hawkins of Brooklyn; twelve great grandchildren; and his siblings, Perah Read of Victor, and Laverne (Nancy) Weisskopf of Ladora. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Sue Weisskopf; his grandson, Jason Weisskopf.
