Bill “Brickie” Innis, 70, of Grinnell died June 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Ian Draegert officiating.
Honorary bearers will be Mark, Bud, Robert, and Kenneth Innis, Christopher Weant, Skyler Hass, Jacob Boots, and Chris Sutluff.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and where the family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bill Innis Memorial Fund.

Bill was born July 27, 1939, in Grinnell, the son of Russell Eugene and Florene Alva Swearingen Innis. He was raised in Marshalltown and attended school in the Marshalltown School District. |
On December 12, 1959, he was united in marriage to Sally Jo Renaud, at the Northside Friends Church in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Grinnell and he was employed as masonry for several construction companies including, Gethmann, Stewart, Seedorf, and Jensen. He also did a lot of independent brick work in the Grinnell area. He retired in 2005. |
Bill was a member of the Grinnell Go-Getters CB Club. He enjoyed hunting as a youth, socializing with family and friends, and playing cribbage and cards. He enjoyed watching western movies and was a fan of John Wayne and Richard Boone. He loved his cats. |
Survivors include two children, Mark Innis and Lisa Ross, both of Grinnell, three sisters, Doretta Costello of Teaneck, New Jersey, Mary “Bess” Draegeret of Grinnell, and Ruth Kirby of Newburg; three brothers, Bud Innis of Marshalltown, Robert Innis of Barnes City, and Kenneth Innis of Havelock, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Johanna and Sarah Hass, Melissa Ingle, and Christopher Weant; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler Hass and Jacob Boots. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Mary Hass; and one sister, Hazel Draegert. |
