Larry was born on June 8, 1962 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Kenneth and Joyce Howard Shook. That winter, the family moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where he attended and graduated high school.

Larry married Dawn Bogue on June 24, 1989 and from this union, Crystal Marie Shook was born. They later divorced. He worked at Certainteed, Godfather’s and finally found his place at Jeld-Wen. Even through the cancer, Larry would continue to work, get his chemotherapy and go back to work. He was a man that had incredible inner strength and never complained.

He held a great passion for skateboarding and bicycling. His collection of skateboards is overwhelming. He went on several trips with his fellow cyclists to Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. He participated in RAGBRAI on numerous occasions. Larry had a dry sense of humor and a unique personality. He was young at heart and he will always be remembered that way.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Crystal Shook of Chicago, Illinois; his parents, Kenneth and Joyce Shook of Grinnell; his brother, Ron Shook of Grinnell; niece, Kali Shook and nephew, Kendell Mikkelson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Harvey.

Memorials may be directed to the Larry Dean Shook Memorial Fund.
