Karen was born the daughter of Elmer Rusk and Kathleen “Kutch” Squires Rusk on April 29, 1940 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She was raised in Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1958. She was united in marriage to Terry Van Sickle and to this union their daughter Heidi was born. Following the death of her husband, she moved back to Belle Plaine to be closer to her family. She was employed at Benco Manufacturing in Belle Plaine for many years.

Karen’s family was her life and she dearly loved her grandchildren. Her enjoyments included making crafts at the nursing home, playing cards and board games, and solving crossword puzzles.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Eric) Van Buren of Victor, Iowa; her grandchildren, Terra, Saxon, Bailey, and Nate Van Buren; her sister, Marcia McDonald of West Branch, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Carol Walton and Lyle Rusk; and a nephew, Brad Busher.
