Connie Lee Scandridge, 58, of Hartwick, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at her home. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 26, 2010 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Rev Brian Shepley officiating. Rev. Michael Kolesar of St. James Lutheran Church in Victor will assist. Organist will be Verabeth Bricker and vocalist will be Anna Upah. Pallbearers will be Bill Roberts, Kevin, Kim, Rick and Brad Jahlas, B.J. Pease, and Brien Scandridge. Honorary bearers will be Paul John and Jim Scandridge and Jim and Jenna Rajtora. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Victor. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Connie L. Scandridge Memorial Fund.

Connie was born April 14, 1952, in Grinnell, the daughter of LaVerne and Earlene Heitman Jahlas. She was raised in the Victor area and was a 1970 graduate of H.L.V. High School. She was baptized May 4, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Victor and Confirmed April 3, 1966 at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor.

On August 29, 1970, she was united in marriage to Daniel J. Scandridge, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. The couple lived in Victor for a year and a half prior to making their home in rural Hartwick. She was employed as a waitress at the Victorian Inn near Victor and later with Big G in Marengo. She then was employed as deli manager at the Pronto Market in Victor until September of 2006.

Connie loved being with her family. The light of her life was when her granddaughter Jenna was born February 4, 2008, and she enjoyed spending her time with her. She loved crocheting, especially for her family, and she enjoyed her trips to Hawaii and being out on the farm. She loved anything to do with Christmas and collecting Nativity themes. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and more recently enjoyed following NASCAR. Connie was a very content person and fought a courageous battle with her cancer.

Survivors include her husband Dan of Hartwick; two children Tanya (Jim) Rajtora of Victor and Paul John Scandridge of Cedar Rapids; her parents LaVerne and Earlene Jahlas of Victor; one sister Vickie (Bill) Roberts of Victor; four brothers Kevin (LuAnn) Jahlas of Brooklyn, Kim (Chris) Jahlas, Rick Jahlas, and Brad (Connie) Jahlas, all of Victor, her mother-in-law, Mary Scandridge of Victor; other brother and sister- in-laws, Jim and Jeannine Scandridge of Victor and Jean and Arthur Pozzi of Bend, Oregon; three grandchildren Jenna Rajtora of Victor and Cayce and Swayze Rajtora of Wellford, South Carolina; fourteen nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Art and Edna Cheney and William and Maria Jahlas; her father-in-law Paul Scandridge; and one nephew Joshua Roberts.
