Ruth was born on February 10, 1914, in Sioux City, Iowa to Charles and Minnie Hamel Seidensticker. She was raised in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge High School. She also attended the University of Iowa. After her graduation she lived in Des Moines and worked at the Home Federal Savings and Loan.

In February of 1937, she was married to Robert H. Bush in Des Moines. The couple lived in Des Moines and she was a homemaker and mother of three children. Following the death of her husband in 1966 she moved to Florida and later to San Diego, California. She was married to Dr. Robert Rowland in February of 1978. The couple lived in California and Texas before moving to Grinnell, Iowa in 2002.

She enjoyed sewing, the arts and water color painting. She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and the Orient. Ruth had a great sense of humor and enjoyed conversation regarding politics and current events.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert Rowland of Grinnell; two daughters, Mimsy Tarman of Grinnell and Susie Bim of Brooklyn; four grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, David and Harry Bush; and two sisters, Margaret Seidensticker and Betty Perkins.

A memorial fund in her name will be established at a later date.
