Interment: following her service on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell

Ida was born the daughter of Albert and Hettie Smith Davenport on June 1, 1918 in Altamont, Missouri. She was raised and educated in Wayne County, Kentucky.

She was united in marriage to Harold Rose on March 23, 1944 in Lancaster, Missouri. To this union were born their children, Harold, Jr., James, John and Keith. Following their marriage the couple resided in Grinnell. Ida worked at several local businesses including the Candyland, McCurry’s Restaurant, Three Elms, and Ted’s Hamburger Shop. She then continued her life long career as a child care provider, which began at the age of 16 and continued until her retirement at 80 years old.

Ida was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grinnell and the Grinnell American Legion Auxiliary. She held a special love for all children, especially her grandchildren. She was a hard worker, an excellent cook, and she had a keen sense of humor. Her enjoyments included mushroom hunting, gardening, canning, baking, completing jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards.

Ida is survived by her sons, Harold (Cathie) Rose, Jr., James Rose, John Rose, and Keith (Kathi) Rose, all of Grinnell; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and her sisters, Juanita Reed of Grinnell, Dorothy Schoonover of Grinnell, and Viola Gamble of Wellington, Florida. Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Lela Campbell, Stella Hurt, Carl Davenport, William Davenport, James Davenport, Lloyd Davenport, Lester Davenport and Norman Davenport.
