Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Guernsey United Methodist Church
Interment: following the funeral service on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Ohio Cemetery south of Ladora

Beatrice was born the daughter of Samuel and Lillie Belle Japhet Coover on April 12, 1913 near Blairstown, Iowa. She was raised near Blairstown and Belle Plaine and received her education at country schools. She was united in marriage to Forrest Earl Slaymaker at her parent’s home near Blairstown on January 2, 1933. The couple was blessed with eight children: Nadean, Johnny, Gerald, Vernon, Judy, Jerry, Linda and Steven. The couple started farming near Millersburg and purchased their family farm near Guernsey in 1943.

Beatrice was a member of the Guernsey United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Friendly Neighbor Club. She dearly loved her family and she cherished the times they spent together. She was an excellent cook who made her meals from scratch and the family would often gather to enjoy her fine cooking especially her homemade noodles and bread. With her loving smile, she had a way of making people feel welcome and loved. Her enjoyments included sewing, tending to her garden and flowers, traveling, drawing, dancing, and listening to music. She also held a special love for her cats.

Beatrice is survived by her children, Nadean Wandling of Marengo, Johnny (Irene) Slaymaker of Guernsey, Gerald (Kris) Slaymaker of Guernsey, Vernon (JoAnne) Slaymaker of Ottumwa, Judy (Bob) Howe of Urbandale, Jerry (Reta) Slaymaker of Guernsey, Linda Njamfa of Des Moines, and Steven (Kim) Slaymaker of Belle Plaine; 26 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; her sister-in-laws, Maxine Coover of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Doris Coover of Summitville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Beatrice died on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. She was 96 years of age and she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandsons, Fred and Jim Wandling; her granddaughters, Debbie and LuAnn (Scott) Slaymaker; daughter-in-law, Dee (Gerald) Slaymaker; son-in-law, Lyle (Nadean) Wandling; and her siblings, Arthur, Lucille and Bruce Coover.
