Phyllis Jack, 77, of Victor, died October 14, 2009, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A graveside service and burial are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, at Victor Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Susan Sanning, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating, with assistance from Brian D. Jack and Joel Rozendaal. Pallbearers will be Brent Jack, Brian M. Jack, Scott Stowell, Cody Vogt, Logan Weldon, Jennifer Rozendaal, Mandy Weldon, and Kristy Baarda. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor and where the family will be present from 4:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Phyllis Jack Memorial Fund. Phyllis was born November 19, 1931, in Ladora, the daughter of Owen and Frances Heller Slaymaker. She was raised in Ladora and was a 1949 graduate of Ladora High School. She later raised her family and worked on her farm south of Victor. For several years she was employed at Miracle Recreation in Grinnell and later retired from Victor Plastics in 1991. Phyllis enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several bridge and 500 clubs. She also enjoyed playing scrabble, sewing, making quilts, and baking cookies. She liked watching sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. She was a charter member of the HLV Booster Club. Her family and her love for them were very important to her and she enjoyed staying active with her grandchildren’s activities. Survivors include four children, Terry (Vicki) Jack of Williamsburg, Diane (Dan) Stowell of Victor, Lonnie (Donna) Jack of Victor, and Dana (Dean Rickels) Vogt of Marengo; one sister, Nancy (Laverne) Weisskopf of Ladora; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Randy Jack.
