Audeen was born on October 31, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa to Elmer and Linda Tuggle Criswell. She was raised in the Happy Hallow neighborhood of Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools.
On August 11, 1952, she was married to Lowell W. Thompson in Iowa City. The couple lived in Grinnell and she was a mother and a homemaker. She also worked in the produce department of Fareway and she was a bus driver for the Grinnell-Newburg School District.
Audeen enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, bird watching, raising flowers, studying her bible and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a life-time member of the former Northside Friends Church of Grinnell. Following her death she was a cornea donor.
Survivors include her daughter, Reca Ahrens of Grinnell; three sons, Glenn (Laura) Thompson of Madrid, John (Sara) Thompson and Sheldon (Sheryl) Thompson both of Grinnell; eight grandchildren, Katie Neleman, Andrea Shepard, Mac Ahrens, Kerrie Davis, Jesse Thompson, Shane Thompson, DJ Bowman and Sara Bowman; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Denny Criswell of Des Moines and David Criswell of Galesburg; and four sisters, Ruth Martin and Analee Horstmann, both of Grinnell and Audrey Brand and Kathy Van Norden, both of Sully.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Herman, Paul, Alna “Curly” and Eldon Criswell; and three sisters, Anita Fraker, Ada Sumpter and Edith Barkley.
