Arthur Henry Grosenbach was born October 22, 1921 to Albert John and Edith William Grosenbach in Melvin, Illinois. He moved with his family in 1927 to Kaskaskia Island, located between Illinois and Missouri, and later that year they moved to the Algona, Iowa area. In 1934, the family made their permanent home in Grinnell.
On March 3, 1946, Art was united in marriage with Frances “Bubs” Louise Elrod in Indianapolis, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Naval Air Corp in Des Moines, Iowa in August of 1942. He was honorably discharged as a second class petty officer aviation machinist mate in Minneapolis, Minnesota in February of 1946.
In their early years, the couple farmed and had a dairy herd in the Poweshiek County area. He then worked at Miracle Recreation in Grinnell, was a salesman at Maples Chevrolet in Newton, Iowa, and was the Justice of the Peace for Grinnell. Most recently, he worked at Oakland Acres Golf Course mowing the greens.
Art accomplished many things over the years. He was honored to be in Grinnell’s Hall of Fame for third basemen in softball. He was an all-conference bowler and served on several boards during his lifetime, which included: the Elks Lodge, Eagles Club, the American Legion, and the Moose Lodge. He served on the board of trustees at the Eagles for several years.
