Margaret was born on May 10, 1916, near St. Paul, Kansas to Albert and Nina Basler Lydick. She attended rural school and graduated from Erie High School in Erie, Kansas in 1933. Following her education she worked at the Neosho County Farm Bureau office. On March 17, 1936, she was married to Gail Wheeler in Malcom, Iowa. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm southwest of Malcom. She assisted her husband with the operation of the farm and enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers in her garden. In 1979 the couple moved to Grinnell to make their home. She was employed at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell as a receptionist from 1993 to 2006. Margaret was an active member of the Malcom United Methodist and later the Grinnell United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, assisted in the church office and served as organist for the first Sunday service. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters, the Just-A-Mere Club and the Harmony Ladies Aid. Survivors include her brother, Robert (Arthena) Lydick of Clovis, NM; two sister-in-laws, Anne Lydick of Las Cruses, N.M. and Lona Bangham of Grinnell; as well as her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Jesse Lydick.

Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or to Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
