Dorothy Maxine Fleener was born on August 2, 1916, in Brooklyn, Iowa the daughter of Alfred and Pearl Workman Wahner. She attended and graduated from Grinnell High School.
On March 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ralph Fleener at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, four children were born; Robert, Marilyn, Don and Janet.
Dorothy was very devoted to her family and her church. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and very active in every aspect of the church. She taught Sunday School, was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church, led the ladies missionary group, bible study teacher, gave rides to anyone who needed one to church and always willing to help anyone in need. She was famous for her pecan pie. Dorothy loved the fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada. She spent many hours in the garden and canning her produce.
She is survived by her husband Ralph of Grinnell; son, Don (Kathy) Fleener of Grinnell; daughter, Janet (Greg) Muckler of Grinnell; two sisters, Vera VanWyngarden of Grinnell and Shirley Harrelson of Montezuma; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Dorothy M. Fleener, age 92, of Grinnell, died on Monday, June 15, 2009 at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert in infancy; daughter, Marilyn Rector; sister, Verna Harbin; two brothers Richard “Dick” Wahner and Alfred “Junior” Wahner.
