Cheribel was born on March 23, 1928, in Marengo, Iowa to Cecil and Dolly Stucker Dillin. She was raised in Marengo and graduated from Marengo High School with the Class of 1946.
On November 26, 1950, she was married to Harold Schmidt in Marengo. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm southeast of Victor. She was a homemaker and 4-H leader.
Cheribel was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served in the choir, the Ladies Aid and was the church secretary. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and needle work.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Schmidt of Victor; her children, John (Karen) Schmidt of Alta, Iowa, Barbara (Randy) Haman of Marengo, Tom (Judy) Schmidt of Peoria, IL; seven grandchildren; one sister, Odena Hladky of Marengo; and one brother, John Bruce Dillin of Marengo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, C.R. “Bob” Dillin and George Dillin.
